The DIY Experience - $350 + hst. Full day. 10 people max.

That's right. Come to the farm for the day, bring some family and friends and make your own syrup and memories. The memories will last a lifetime. The syrup, not so much.

Tour description: Arrive at the farm for a 9 am departure to the sugar bush. Your belongings will be loaded and sent ahead to the site while your group enjoys a guided walk to The Roost Farm sugar shack. During your walk and throughout the day you will be introduced to some post-colonial farm history, as well as the science and evolution of sap gathering and syrup making from Indigenous processes to modern day techniques. Beyond knowledge gathering, your DIY experience will consist of a tree tapping demonstration, sap collecting, sap boiling, syrup filtering, finishing and bottling some syrup to take home and enjoy.
This is an outdoor experience and sap boiling is a process--ever watched a pot boil?? This experience offers guests the opportunity to learn, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. Guests should come prepared with adequate clothing for cool or wet temperatures. Children will require extra clothes and footwear (soakers are a rite of passage of Canadian maple syrup making), and all guests should wear waterproof boots. Lunch and snacks are not provided but guests will have full access to a BBQ, propane stovetop and an open fire at the site. We provide plates, utensils, cups and napkins, as well as access to basic cookware (pots, pans, griddles). Please bring anything you like to make your experience more enjoyable and leave the clean up to us.
